Ruth Parker
Ruth is a diverse contemporary artist working on the borders of craft, audio, film and installation. Her work has been commissioned and exhibited in the UK and abroad - both in it's own right and integrated into interior design. By collecting and manipulating oral history and everyday objects she strives to find a tangible equivalence for thought and memories, and in particular explores how these processes are affected by our environment and altering physiological states.
She is often drawn to objects and stories that have been fallen out of favour, deliberately left behind or disregarded as inconsequential or useless. Examining the marks and tones, re-editing, revealing or adding new layers in an attempt to find a new place and context for a forgotten or untold story. The resulting works have a playful duality between what is disclosed and what remains hidden, allowing the viewer a sense of space to project their own interpretations.
Ruth draws her inspiration from many different sources: Psychogeography, textiles, oral history, music, lowbrow/outsider art, Religious icons. Always adding and subtracting ideas and colors to her work to make each work have it's own story.
